Mike Johnson is the Director of School Safety for Hamilton Southeastern Schools.  Before serving as the Director of School Safety, Mike was a police officer for 29 years.  Mike worked for the Fishers Police Department from 1993 – 2022 where he served as a patrol officer, a field training officer, a shift sergeant, shift lieutenant and division commander. 

Mike was one of the early DARE Officers at Fishers PD joining the program in 1995; only 4 years after the program began locally.  He taught thousands of students the character education course over 23 years.  Mike has been a member of the DARE Indiana Training team and was a senior instructor.  He has also served on the board of directors for DARE Indiana and was named the Indiana DARE Officer of the year in 1999. 

Mike is a National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Certified National Safe School Practitioner and Instructor.  Mike teaches the NASRO Basic SRO course as well as the NASRO Adolescent Mental Health class.  He is an Indiana Safe School Specialist and serves on the Indiana School Safety Specialist Advisory Committee. 

In his current role, he oversees the administration of all school safety efforts for HSE Schools.  The district is the 4th largest district in Indiana with nearly 22,000 students, 2,500 employees and 25 buildings.
